ESOS Phase 4 runs on a fixed clock: the qualification date is 31 December 2026 and the compliance deadline is 5 December 2027. If your organisation employs 250 or more staff in the UK, or has a turnover above £44m and a balance sheet above £38m, you qualify — and the report has to be signed off by a registered ESOS lead assessor.

What an ESOS audit actually involves
An ESOS audit covers total energy consumption across buildings, transport and industrial processes, then requires energy audits on areas representing at least 95% of that total. Phase 4 keeps the additions introduced in Phase 3: an enforceable action plan, annual progress updates and mandatory reporting of intended energy-saving measures. Getting this wrong is expensive — the Environment Agency can fine up to £50,000 for failure to undertake an audit, plus daily penalties.
Working as your energy audit consultant, we handle the qualification assessment, the data collection across every site, the site visits, the lead assessor review and the submission itself. Where you already have ISO 50001 coverage or Display Energy Certificates, we use those as routes to compliance rather than duplicating work you have paid for.
